This report explores the evolution of big data analytics and its maturity within the enterprise. It discusses the approaches and economics to using a Discovery platform and Apache Hadoop within the same unified analytical architecture. The initial focus was on the approaches and economics to using Teradata® Aster Discovery Platform and Apache Hadoop within the same analytical architecture. Three companies anonymously shared their experiences and practices with big data analytics and highlighted the benefits and issues of their dual Aster--Hadoop architectures. The study also outlines the tradeoffs and insights of how the practice of big data analytics is maturing in companies today.
Companies share experiences with big data analytics, the benefits and issues of their dual architecture and how they are making substantial investments in analytical architectures and must be knowledgeable of these tradeoffs. The technology is moving very fast and, hence, companies must satisfy current requirements while constantly planning for future requirements. The take-away of this study is a series of insights that a company should periodically debate as its analytical architecture matures.
