The HealthLeaders Media Physician Alignment Survey confirms there is continued deep support for clinical integration across our industry. We see some clear trends in how hospitals and health systems use clinical integration and risk sharing to work toward physician alignment and better access.
Today, 55% of respondents say their hospitals or health systems are working toward clinical integration with their employed physicians, and 52% are doing so with independent physicians. Over the next three years, this rises to 58% for both groups. The trend for more physicians—independent and employed—to collaborate with hospitals to develop clinical initiatives is one I believe can have the greatest impact to lower the cost of health services and improve patient access and quality care—what the industry calls clinical integration.
