Two trends are driving interest in converged appliances for remote office/branch office (ROBO) environments. First, in many organizations, data is moving out to the edge of the networks. Storing data close to where the work gets done can improve performance and efficiency, and even organizations with large centralized data centers find that they need some hardware at their branch offices.
At the same time, many organizations are becoming more interested in converged appliances that offer integrated compute, storage, and networking capabilities. IDC refers to these sorts of appliances as “hyperconverged” systems, and it reported that “hyperconverged sales grew 155.3% year over year during the third quarter of 2015, generating more than $278.8 million worth of sales.” Intel® technology can help.
