In the post-ACA era, aligning physicians with organizational goals appears to be gaining traction in health systems and hospitals nationwide. Based on a February survey of the HealthLeaders Media Council, comprising executives from healthcare provider organizations across the country, physician alignment remains a complex challenge.
Even as value-based care continues to take effect, clinical integration or alignment is quickly emerging from a need to ensure quality, cut costs, and drive referrals across health systems and hospitals. Directly employing physicians has been one of the main strategies healthcare leaders are using to improve physician alignment with health systems.

The annual Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® identifies U.S. hospitals with the best overall performance across multiple organizational metrics, including clinical, operational, and financial. The ability of some hospitals to adapt as the industry is changing demonstrates leadership as the winners set the standards their peers seek to achieve. Study projections indicate that if the new national benchmarks of high performance were achieved by all hospitals in the United States, nearly 126,500 additional lives could be saved, almost 109,000 additional patients could be complication-free, and $1.8 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.
The Truven Health Analytics 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study identifies hospitals that achieve the best performance on a scorecard of performance measures. This year, based on comparisons between the winners and a peer group of similar high-volume hospitals that were not winners, the study found that if all cardiovascular providers performed at the level of this year’s winners, approximately 9,500 additional patients could survive, more than $1 billion could be saved, and almost 3,000 additional bypass and angioplasty patients could be complication-free. This is based on an analysis of Medicare patients; if the same standards were applied to all inpatients, the impact would be even greater.
The Truven Health Analytics 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study identifies U.S. hospitals that have achieved the best performance on a balanced scorecard of performance measures. Based on comparisons between study winners and a peer group of similar hospitals that were not winners, winners are achieving better outcomes while operating more efficiently and at a lower cost. If all cardiovascular providers performed at the same level of this year’s winners, almost 8,000 additional lives could be saved; nearly 3,500 heart patients could be complication free; and more than $1.3 billion could be saved.
As the healthcare industry shifts focus from volume to value, standardization is needed to accurately benchmark labor resource utilization. This is the premise of a survey conducted by HealthLeaders Media and sponsored by Kronos.

Change is commonplace within the healthcare industry. Executives are faced with many of the traditional challenges of operating hospitals. Now emerging external factors like the HITECH Act (meaningful use), the Affordable Care Act and an aging U.S. population are pushing providers to change the frameworks in how they view and solve these traditional problems.
In the coming era of accountable care, providers will finally have something to gain by actively engaging patients in taking care of their health—and a lot to lose by not doing so. The best way to do that is to manage every aspect of their care. But the patients themselves will remain free to defect to another provider whenever they choose, either temporarily or permanently. Persuading them to centralize their care will rapidly become job 1. This report explores survey results about the primary forces enabling patient engagement and features a case study about the active care management program in development at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in South Carolina.

Leaders from Beaufort Memorial Hospital and Influence Health discuss the challenges providers face and the skills they must acquire to increase patient engagement. In the coming era of accountable care, providers will finally have something to gain by actively engaging patients in taking care of their health—and a lot to lose by not doing so. Increasingly, providers will receive a fixed sum to care for each patient attributed to them by payers, and they will be able to make an overall profit only by keeping those patients as healthy as possible.

Many of those breaches occurred due to vulnerabilities in applications and on websites. For example, this past April, the IRS announced a breach attributable to a tool designed to fetch data for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

IT Transformation is a concept that is not synonymous with digital transformation, but the two concepts are fundamentally linked. A business that transforms its IT infrastructure no longer has to rely on rigid, manual, siloed legacy technologies. Updating IT often yields a boost in IT operational speed, efficiency, scale, and cost effectiveness ? tasks become automated, processes streamlined, and resources freed up. These IT-level improvements fuel a larger-scale digital transformation enabling businesses to out-innovate, out-think, and out-pace its competitors in today’s digital economy. We see a counterintuitive future whereby better security no longer means a more complicated or cumbersome user experience. We see a future in which users happily take control of their privacy, out-of-band mobile MFA is the norm, and nobody suffers the fallout from the last major credential breach. This future is free of sticky notes with scribbled codes and centralized credential stores. Indeed, it’s free of passwords altogether.

You may have heard that storing device data for more than a few months has no value because fraudsters frequently switch devices. Our data shows otherwise.
Over a typical 30-day period, iovation saw 2M transactions from devices with a history of fraud that was first seen on our network 3+ years earlier. That number is even more sobering for devices first seen 1-2 years earlier: 16M transactions. Fortunately, iovation’s unique device history capability provides our customers with the knowledge of whether a device has a history of fraud.
Omnichannel is one of those words everyone
uses, but few use correctly. It’s not another word for
multichannel. It’s a different state of existence.
In our experience, multichannel is the ability to interact
with customers across many different channels, but
not necessarily in a cohesive fashion. As new channels
become available, they are “bolted on” to existing
customer experience infrastructure such as CRM
or customer support systems. Too frequently, the
management of these channels becomes siloed (web
versus in-store sales, for example). The effect of this from
the customer experience standpoint can be disjointed
and jarring. For example, the resolution of an issue
following a customer conversation with an associate
in the contact center may not be reflected when the
customer goes online or into a store.
Yet the ability to offer multichannel service experience is
table stakes for today’s business. If you’re not available in
the channels where customers want you to be, you cease
