Workforce management and the pursuit of productivity have formed a consistent pain point for hospitals for several years. The Affordable Care Act has only exacerbated the problem, increasing the demand on providers as the number of insured grows and the bar continues to rise on quality of care. According to a recent HealthLeaders Media Council survey, workforce productivity and acuity-based staffing will continue to be top priorities this year. Karlene Kerfoot, PhD, chief clinical integration officer at API Healthcare, says the survey results indicate a shift taking place as workforce management initiatives are expected to deliver more than reduced labor costs.
An innovative staff scheduling model is reinventing how hospitals leverage their employees for better outcomes; including staff satisfaction, labor costs, and improved quality of care.

The shift from inpatient to outpatient care is increasing as hospitals transition from volume to value. A specific shift is seen in interventional cardiology treatment (cardiac catheterization, intracoronary stents, and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties [PTCA]), which is moving from an inpatient hospital to outpatient hospital setting. Preliminary data show that most interventional cardiology procedures will soon be performed in the hospital outpatient setting. It will be important for hospitals to consider future demand and volume for interventional cardiology services; capacity for an increase in hospital outpatient volume; and staffing and operational implications.
Healthcare organizations are facing uncertain times, which is putting enormous strains on their RCM. This white paper will show how you can lower your staff costs, enhance clean claims rates, cut denial rates, improve patient collections and reduce bad debt.
Savvy healthcare organizations are embracing strategies to simultaneously improve the bottom line and care quality. Sometimes responsible for two separate aspects of the health system, now CFO and CNO collaboration is vital to a hospital’s success.
HealthLeaders' survey on workforce management queried leaders from a cross-section of U.S. healthcare organizations, including hospitals, health systems, physician organizations, and long-term care/skilled nursing facilities. The 150 respondents represent executives across all disciplines — administration, clinical, operations, finance, marketing, and information. In the next three to five years, hospitals, health systems, and other patient service providers expect to augment their time-and-attendance and payroll systems with integrated applications that enable more sophisticated data crunching around labor analytics, acuity management, and staffing assignments. The goal? To convert the workforce from overhead to asset — a flexible, agile asset that will help organizations succeed in an increasingly demanding regulatory and competitive environment.
Improving Patient Care and the Bottom Line is a whitepaper from Capella University. Discover key research findings on how BSN degrees impact patient care. In reading this whitepaper you will uncover the benefits of a more educated nursing staff–including lowering the cost of care by over $5M annually, reducing annual readmissions by 248 days, improving patient mortality rates, and lowering their length of stay. Learn how BSN-qualified nurses can improve care for your patients–and allow you to meet your organizational goals.

As the threat landscape evolves, organizations have accepted the fact that they have to take a more proactive detection approach to advanced threats rather than relying on traditional defenses. As a result, customers have turned to detection and response tools that allow for proactive “hunting” for Indicators of Attack (IoA) and reactive “sweeping” for indicators of compromise (IoCs). Once found, those tools are required to automatically respond to attacks or to at least provide for an action from the Incident Response (IR) staff. Unfortunately, due to the number and complexity of both these attacks and the detection/response tools, organizations struggle to hire enough qualified staff and stay on top of the discovered threats. This is compounded by a worldwide cybersecurity skills shortage. Managed detection and response (XDR) provides advanced threat hunting, detection, and response as a service to organizations that seek assistance for their own IR staff, or for those who wish to o

In an age of tech-savvy customers and self-service channels, do companies still need to invest in contact centers and staff to provide support?
The answer is, yes.
Consumers have been trained to find the information they need on their own online or with their mobile device. But when they do pick up to the phone and reach out to customer service, they expect representatives to solve what are often complex questions. They expect human interactions.
This enormous shift in which customer service representatives are perceived as a last resort puts increased pressure on contact center associates who already have the odds stacked against them. The staff must be trained to quickly handle issues that frequently require access to a wide variety of information, but a lack of investment means many associates are often unprepared and lack the right resources to help customers.
To change the outcome, customer service representatives need the right training and tools to not only understand the issue,
This is a case study which shows how Voorhees College implemented a revolutionary communications solution based around a service-orientated Unified Communications architecture from NEC to provide students, faculty and staff in five locations with software-based voice and desktop communications tools to achieve a 40 percent savings over its previous traditional telephony solution.
All organizations should aspire to have the people, processes, and tools necessary to effectively execute an on-going penetration testing program. Failure to do so may result in poor tool selections, testing mistakes, and faulty interpretation of results that often lead to a false sense of security putting the enterprise at risk. IT security and audit staff, along with their managers and directors, should read this paper to clarify any misunderstandings about penetrating testing - from the true purposes and goals, to important process considerations, to tools and tester selection issues, and finally to safe and effective ethical hacking approaches.

Customer service is, was and always will be a top priority for companies.
But today’s digital age has given rise to a new kind of customer with far different expectations — making customer service more complex than ever.
Here’s the good news: By aligning People, Process & Technology (PPT), you can not only meet these new expectations, but exceed them by providing a more personalized and proactive customer experience.
In this ePaper, you’ll learn how order processing automation helps you:
• Create a more engaged, empowered staff
• Eliminate low-value tasks like data entry
• Provide 100% visibility into every order processed
The University of Melbourne deployed Automation Anywhere’s Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technology to reduce manual work and automate a range of administrative processes across student admissions, faculty administration, and supplier tracking. The deployed software bots now automate the entry of all data and attachments for new admission applications, and the university has slowly expanded its automation capabilities for staff across other faculties. This has allowed the University of Melbourne to increase the efficiency of critical business processes, boost staff engagement, and improve customer experience for its teachers and student body.
In the age of the digital enterprise, success is built on the
foundation of fast, reliable and secure Internet access. No
one knows this better than IT staff working to meet enduser
demands. Their list of challenges is extensive and
touches practically every employee in their companies:
The widespread use of mobile devices — smartphones and tablets — provides anytime, anywhere computing and communications resources for individuals worldwide. Both smartphones and tablets have made the transition from a personal resource, acquired and supported by consumers, to a professional resource, provided and supported by employers. For midsize firms around the world, those with 100–999 employees, mobile resources play a key role in improving workplace productivity as well as allowing greater flexibility in how and where work is done.
New collaboration resources also allow staff in different locations to work together as efficiently and effectively as staff in the same office. The challenge for IT management is how best to coordinate the different collaborative and mobile resources and provide secure management of mobile devices and collaboration tools while enhancing workforce agility and productivity.
