As a marketer, you know how critical it is to understand how your marketing efforts contribute to the bottom line. There’s a lot that goes on behind-the-scenes to generate sales pipeline and ultimately revenue. And by becoming a data-driven marketer that’s in tune with the right metrics, you can demonstrate marketing’s contribution to both.
Metrics illustrate the impact that you and your team are driving in the organization, which is critical to ensure you have the budget and resources you need to deliver optimum business outcomes. Without metrics, it’s nearly impossible to measure the success of your activities and identify elements to optimize in future campaigns. And without them, there’s no way to determine your return on investment (ROI).

Knowledge and strategic relationships fuel many organizations in today’s rapidly changing, global economy. As such, organizations need to leverage the individuals—and their networks—that possess the most relevant knowledge, whether they are current employees or are only loosely connected to the organization. To do this, organizations should create and leverage peer collaboration networks that enable them to identify and connect with individuals who have the unique skills, knowledge, and capabilities these organizations need. Bersin’s Research, Why Reputations and Networks Matter in the Open Talent Economy, indicates that this approach works in driving value—organizations that have effectively used internal reputation networks and profile databases have been able to increase key metrics such as employees’ time to productivity and innovation levels.
It has been said that you can’t manage what you can’t measure, and you must measure what really matters. New service delivery models for IT service management, such as software as a service (SaaS), as well as emerging communications channels for support that include social media, will require some changes to the way you traditionally measure the effectiveness of your services. That’s why you should reexamine your service metrics as you begin to rely more heavily on SaaS, social media, and a more services-oriented approach to IT delivery.
Aggregated from customer usage metrics of the Coupa cloud platform, the Coupa Benchmark allows you to compare your performance to your peers. The 2014 Benchmark includes ten KPIs, including req-to-order cycle time, invoice OK-to-pay hours, and visible PO spend-on-contract percentage.
Today, email deliverability is a challenging goal and a moving target all at the same time. Traditional metrics such as email volume and open rates are going up, but inbox placement is in decline. And no matter how fantastic your email is, it won’t generate a response if it isn’t delivered. So, what can today’s marketers do to make sure their messages hit the inbox?
Growing numbers of businesses are moving their contact center operations to the cloud. What do they know that you don’t? This whitepaper provides a practical guide to assist in the decision-making process. The principle “what gets measured gets managed” dictates that by simply examining an activity, you can get a handle on it and find ways to improve it. However, not all metrics are created equal—meaning not all things that can be measured will give you the ability to proactively take action in a timely manner. Case in point: If you measure the effectiveness of your customer success and recurring revenue growth programs based only on retention, churn, renewal or attrition rates, then you have a problem. These are very important metrics, and they are definitely key to your business. The problem is that these metrics can only tell you if you have a problem, which you often discover only after it is too late to affect real change.
