To become more effective, enterprises must fast-track projects to digitally connect their organizations. Building value and providing compelling customer experiences at lower cost requires more than a quick technology fix; it demands a business and technological commitment to a new target operating model (TOM). This operating model should offer a way of running the organization that combines digital technologies and operational capabilities to achieve improvements in revenue, customer experience and cost. Enabling digital capabilities via the TOM is an ongoing process that requires DevOps skills and agile development techniques. This is easier to achieve with partners that have the requisite capabilities to help with the creation of new digital assets

What if defenders could see the future? If they knew an attack was coming, they could stop it, or at least mitigate its impact and help ensure what they need to protect most is safe. The fact is, defenders
can see what’s on the horizon.
Many clues are out there—and obvious.
The Cisco 2018 Annual Cybersecurity Report presents our latest security industry advances designed to help organizations and
users defend against attacks. We also look at the techniques and strategies that adversaries use to break through those defenses
and evade detection.
The report also highlights major findings from the Cisco 2018 Security Capabilities Benchmark Study, which examines the security posture of enterprises and their perceptions of their preparedness to defend against attacks.
Over the past several years, the IT industry has seen solid-state (or flash) technology evolve at a record pace. Early on, the high cost and relative newness of flash meant that it was mainly relegated to accelerating niche workloads. More recently, however, flash storage has “gone mainstream” thanks to maturing media technology. Lower media cost has resulted from memory innovations that have enabled greater density and new architectures such as 3D NAND. Simultaneously, flash vendors have refined how to exploit flash storage’s idiosyncrasies—for example, they can extend the flash media lifespan through data reduction and other technique

Attackers and malware are increasingly relying on a common set of tools to compromise identities and spread within a network. Tools like Mimikatz accompanied with common administrator tools like PsExec and WMI have become a standard part of an attacker’s arsenal to turn a single machine compromise into a full network breach. In this webinar we will take a look at why some of these tools are traditionally difficult to control, and introduce new countermeasures that let you fight back. In this webinar we will cover:
- An analysis of recent malware and attacks and the tools they used to spread through the network.
- A closer look at the underlying protocols supporting these tools, and the traditional challenges to controlling them.
- Introduce new controls that allow organizations to control NTLM in real-time, block pass-the-hash techniques, and adaptively control the use of NTLM in the network.
- How to gain visibility into PsExec, WMI, and RPC in general and how to create controls t

Big data can be observed, in a real sense, by computers processing it and often by humans reviewing visualizations created from it. In the past, humans had to reduce the data, often using techniques of statistical sampling, to be able to make sense of it. Now, new big data processing techniques will help us make sense of it without traditional reduction.
More often than not, performance and security are thought of as two separate issues that require two separate solutions. This is mainly due to the implications posed behind various performance and security products. We typically have either security solutions or performance solutions, but rarely solutions that offer both. As technology has advanced, so have our attackers, finding newer and better ways to impact both the performance and security of a site. With this in mind, it has become even more critical to come up with solutions that bridge the gap between security and performance. But how do we do that? We need to shift the focus to what we can do at the browser by leveraging various frontend techniques, such as web linking and obfuscation, versus solely relying upon the capabilities of a content delivery network (CDN) or the origin. We can take advantage of all the new and emerging frontend technologies to help provide a secure and optimal experience for users—all starting at the

In this edition we discuss emerging risks, report OS enterprise share, and list the top blacklisted consumer apps. We conclude with our recommendations for enterprises to protect their assets against mobile risks and threats.
Several new mobile attacks have emerged that threaten enterprises. Most are re-using old tactics against mobilespecific services, such as SideStepper’s use of Man-In-The-Middle (MITM) against MDM, rather than employing new techniques or exploiting new vulnerabilities. When attacks against users are successful, they can result in the loss of both personal and business data.
In his 1966 book “The Psychology of Science,” American psychologist Abraham Maslow tackled the idea that those in the field of psychology needed to approach treatment from multiple perspectives, to take on new ideas, and not just continue using the same theories and techniques created by Freud and his followers so many years ago. Acknowledging that changing your point of view can be difficult, Maslow wrote “[I]t is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything like a nail.” We have all had this experience. We get so used to the way things have been done in the past, we sometimes don’t question the reasons for doing them.
Data is growing at amazing rates and will continue this rapid rate of growth. New techniques in data processing and analytics including AI, machine and deep learning allow specially designed applications to not only analyze data but learn from the analysis and make predictions.
Computer systems consisting of multi-core CPUs or GPUs using parallel processing and extremely fast networks are required to process the data. However, legacy storage solutions are based on architectures that are decades old, un-scalable and not well suited for the massive concurrency required by machine learning. Legacy storage is becoming a bottleneck in processing big data and a new storage technology is needed to meet data analytics performance needs.

The Insurance industry continues to undergo significant transformation, with
new technologies, business models, and competitors entering the market at an
increasing rate. To be successful in attracting and retaining the most valuable
customers, insurance companies must innovate and increase the speed at which
they respond to customer demands. Traditionally, the insurance software market
was dominated by a handful of specialist vendors with products that were initially
expensive, difficult to deploy, costly to maintain, and did not provide the speed
needed for today’s market.
Now there has been a shift away from these “black box” applications to platforms
that allow insurers to make their algorithmic IP available to business users, allowing
much faster response to business demands. The algorithmic platform approach also
comes at a fraction of the cost of black box solutions, while delivering advanced
analytical techniques like Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Isolation - a new technique for malware prevention to maintain end user & IT staff productivity
Administrators can either be lenient in allowing access to uncategorized sites, increasing malware risk, or deny access and deprive employees of necessary information. There are hidden costs to both approaches.
Security has always been a fast-paced field, but lately the pace has been accelerating. Malware is rapidly evolving. The ways payloads are being delivered and deployed are changing, too. New attack tools and exploit techniques are appearing more regularly. It’s taking less time for them to gain widespread adoption. For all of those reasons, we thought it would be valuable to share additional insight into the threatscape we shared in the 2018 Critical Watch Report.

Cyberwar fundamentally changes how government must handle security. Firewalls, intrusion detection systems and other security devices can stop the average hacker, but new threats use stealth techniques that these defenses cannot detect on their own.
It may seem curious to refer to psychology in a work on REST and API Design, but it works to illustrate two distinctive points: (1) that all design decisions, regardless of whether they pertain to software or architecture, should be made within the context of functional, behavioral, and social requirements—not random trends; (2) when you only know how to do one thing well, everything tends to look identical.
To get started, let’s take a look at REST in some detail by downloading this whitepaper today.

The emphasis on fast flash technology concentrates much attention on hot, frequently accessed data. However, budget pressures preclude consuming such premium-priced capacity when the access frequency diminishes. Yet many organizations do just that, unable to migrate effectively to lower cost secondary storage on a regular basis.
In this white paper, explore:
• How the relative proportion of hot, warm, and cooler data changes over time
• New machine learning (ML) techniques that sense the cooling temperature of data throughout its half-life
• The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in migrating data to the most cost-effective tier.
