Today’s financial professionals have access to robust tools that offer a detailed picture of a company’s success in real time. With dashboards reporting in-depth data, a CFO can merely glance at a computer to analyze how well the business is doing in key areas. Despite the impressive technology available today, many businesses have yet to make a change. In a survey of 1,500 finance professionals, nearly half reported relying on gut instinct rather than hard data to make important business decisions. The survey—commissioned by Epicor and conducted by Redshift Research Ltd.—also revealed that a majority of CFOs and financial decision-makers are still relying on spreadsheets to interpret business data. In our “Instinct Meets Insight” eBook, you can explore the survey results and learn how a modern financial IT infrastructure lets decision-makers back up instinct with relevant data they can use to help their businesses grow.

We use the term infrastructure more and more to refer to the support system for information technology. Whatever we do with our applications that creates value for our customers, or generates revenue for ourselves, we’re supporting it now with IT infrastructure. It’s all the stuf under the hood. It’s also the part of technology that, when it works right or as well as we expect, we don’t stand in long lines to get a glimpse of, nor do we see much discussion of it on the evening news.

Digital transformation will fail without a commitment to automation - what AHEAD refers to as Relentless Automation. With the advent of public cloud and all of its promise, along with the ripple effect from the DevOps mantra of “automate everywhere”, technology teams must spin up new infrastructure, maintain configurations, and set up and tear down environments much faster than ever before. Of course, no one should automate for the sake of automating, or to simply be ahead of the curve. But while not every activity warrants automation - whether due to the complexity and nuance of the task, or its infrequent occurrence - Relentless Automation means identifying those tasks and processes where the benefits of automation outweigh both its upfront and recurring costs. Thankfully, the business benefits of standardizing and automating IT work are easy to spot: > Freeing up staff for higher value work > Reduction in errors and process variability > More auditability and accountability, helping

While applications and user experiences are simpler and more intuitive, the backend processing, application interdependencies, and underlying infrastructure are more complex than ever, even in light of the benefits of abstraction, virtualization, and cloud computing (see Figure 1.) While CIOs have long been expected to improve stability and uptime - and done a pretty good job of it - the stakes are much

The problem with the vast majority of network and endpoint security solutions is that they operate on the premise of static whitelists and blacklists. These lists do not account for the changing nature of URLs, IPs, files and applications, nor for the volume of unknown threats permeating the web, meaning they cannot be used to provide adequate protection. Compounding this problem is that commercial network security technology, such as NGFWs and unified threat management systems, can easily flood the organization’s network security teams with too many alerts and false positives, making it impossible to understand and respond to new threats. As a result, not only do these threats evade the security technology and land with the victim’s infrastructure, but they also have plenty of time to steal sensitive data and inflict damage to the victim’s business. The final characteristic of the latest attacks is how quickly they compromise and exfiltrate data from the organization, compared to the

In real estate, the most important factor is location, location, location! Your services are not quite as sensitive to the physical position of your technology, but location certainly can be a pivotal factor in optimizing your service design and service delivery. Ideally, location shouldn’t matter; however, it does have an e?ect on customer experience. When technology services were simpler, location was largely irrelevant, but now the complexity of new services demands a strategy more in line with your BT agenda than your former IT agenda. The e?ects of regulatory, cost, risk, and performance factors will vary based on the physical location of your technology resources. Colocation providers, cloud service providers, and even traditional hosting services o?er plenty of evolving options to help infrastructure and operations (I&O) professionals balance these factors to optimize service design and delivery.
