Government agencies often look to promote new technology for cost-savings and efficiency, but it does not stop there. The second and third-tier effects of technology can be long lasting for citizens, businesses, and economies. When public institutions adopt the cloud, they experience an internal transformation. Inside an organization, cloud usage drives greater accessibility of data and information sharing, increases worker productivity, and improves resource allocation. The external benefit of the cloud is recognized through a government’s ability to put reclaimed time and resources toward serving citizens. Electricity provides us with lights and power, both on the job and at home. It’s such a normal part of our lives that we often forget that all that power can be dangerous, too. We’ve all experienced minor electric shocks, but shocks can be severe enough to kill. Careless use of electricity causes 10 percent of job- related deaths, as well as many serious injuries. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has some very detailed regulations designed to keep electricity from becoming a dangerous hazard.

Occupational diseases and even death can be caused by air contaminants or oxygen deficiency in work areas. Employers must provide respirators and training to each employee who is or may be exposed to air contaminants or oxygen-deficient atmospheres when engineering and administrative controls cannot feasibly or effectively reduce exposures to safe levels. Workplaces with respirators must establish a written respiratory protection program that includes respirator selection criteria, employee training, medical evaluations, and fit-testing procedures.

The media and entertainment industry was valued at $1.81 trillion in 2016, and is expected to reach $2.14 trillion by 2020. Activities within this industry have grown over the last couple of years, and now range from creating content for movies, TV and games, to delivering that content. This is increasingly performed via on-demand data networks rather than traditional over-the-air broadcasting, watched over high resolution displays that enhance the overall viewing experience of the user, and even the latter is being delivered from the same storage repositories. Media production is also now prevalent in areas not traditionally associated with this activity, such as training, museums, and education.
