With almost 30,000 cell towers globally, many in remote locations, SBA Communications subcontracts repair and upgrade services to a network of almost 2,500 independent contractors. Given the potentially dangerous working environments at the cell tower sites, SBA wanted to ensure its contractors were compliant with government safety regulations and insurance requirements. After a spike in cell-tower-related injuries in 2014, SBA wanted a contractor safety and compliance solution.

The Tenth Annual State of the Network Global Study focuses a lens on the network team’s role in security investigations. Results indicate that 88 percent of network teams are now spending time on security issues. In fact, out of 1,035 respondents, nearly 3 out of 4 spend up to 10 hours per week working exclusively on these types of problems - in addition to managing network upgrades, SDN, cloud, and big data initiatives. When it comes to technology adoption, both cloud and 100 GbE deployment continue to grow aggressively. VoIP adoption is closing in on 60 percent and software-defined networking (SDN) is projected to cross the halfway mark, indicating compounding network complexity amidst the ongoing struggle to ID security threats. With growth comes change and some trends identified in this year’s survey include a rise in email and browser-based malware attacks (63 percent) and an increase in sophistication (52 percent). Nearly 1 in 3 also report a surge in DDoS attacks, signaling a ne

Every day, companies generate mountains of data that are critical to their business. With that data comes a clear challenge: How do you protect exabytes of data that's strewn across global data centers, computer rooms, remote offices, laptops, desktops, and mobile devices, as well as hosted by many different cloud providers, without choking business agility, employee productivity, and customer experience? The solution lies not in throwing more technology at the network, but in taking specific steps to identify malicious actions and respond to them in order to fix the issue, a process known as operationalizing security.

Global Transit Network architecture is critical to the success of your AWS cloud deployment. Implemented correctly, a Global Transit Hub enables traffic to securely flow from on-prem to VPCs, or from VPC to VPC, in a way that minimizes complexity and cost and maximizes agility and availability. Implemented poorly, it becomes a choke point that is time-consuming – and costly – to maintain and troubleshoot. As part of our fact-filled AWS Bootcamp series, Aviatrix CTO Sherry Wei reviews seven best-practice topics for Global Transit Network architecture. Free Evaluation Checklist In addition to the slides, you’ll also receive a handy spreadsheet-based checklist with 50 architecture and business goals to consider when evaluating solutions for your own Global Transit Network. Who Should Watch? Anyone responsible for connectivity of cloud resources, including cloud architects, cloud infrastructure managers, cloud engineers, and networking staff.

In evaluating the security posture for your Global Transit Network, your first question might be: Why do I even need additional security? Isn’t what Amazon provides “out of the box” adequate? This is not the right question to ask first. It’s important to appreciate that, while Amazon says it has a shared security model, your Amazon EC2 instance may not meet your security requirements “by default.” Though Amazon makes specific security features available to you, it’s still up to you to choose judiciously among the many native and third-party options. As part of our fact-filled AWS Bootcamp series, Aviatrix CTO Sherry Wei and Neel Kamal, head of field operations at Aviatrix, walk through five use cases and examine what Amazon provides, and the questions you need to be asking to implement Amazon services – or add additional ones – that are appropriate for your business. After examining each use case, we’ll show you how we handle it for our own business. Who Should Watch? Anyone responsi

Once you've designed and secured your Global Transit Network, are you done? Are you ready to hand day-to-day responsibility over to an operations team? Or, are there other elements you need to ensure that the day-to-day operation of your transit hub is efficient and effective? As part of our fact-filled AWS Bootcamp series, Aviatrix CTO Sherry Wei and Neel Kamal, head of field operations at Aviatrix, demonstrate the best practices they've gleaned from working with operations teams, all who require: • Visibility: Do you have a way to centrally view your network, see performance bottlenecks, control security policies, and set other configuration details? • Deep Analytics: Can you easily gather performance and audit data and export it to Splunk, DataDog, or other advanced reporting tools? • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Do you have a real-time view of network health, and how easily can you access the data needed to locate and fix issues? • Alert Management: When issues do occur, what r

As of May 2017, according to a report from The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), which provides financial transaction and data processing services for the global financial industry, cloud computing has reached a tipping point1. Today, financial services companies can benefit from the capabilities and cost efficiencies of the cloud. In October of 2016, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC) and the Federal Reserve Board (FRB) jointly announced enhanced cyber risk management standards for financial institutions in an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR)2. These proposed standards for enhanced cybersecurity are aimed at protecting the entire financial system, not just the institution. To meet these new standards, financial institutions will require the right cloud-based network security platform for comprehensive security management, verifiable compliance and governance and active protection of customer data

DDoS attacks can impair your website, tarnish your brand, and impact your bottom line. Conventional security products like firewalls and intrusion prevention systems and newer cloud-based scrubbing services can’t protect your DNS infrastructure against today’s increasingly sophisticated attacks. The best way to defend against DDoS attacks is to trust the operation of your DNS infrastructure to a managed service provider that lives and breathes DNS. Best-of-breed managed DNS providers operate global anycast networks that mitigate DDoS threats to keep your online business up and running.

The DNS is an often-overlooked protocol. Historically, many companies believed they could either run their own DNS service in-house or simply use a bundled option provided by their hosting or CDN provider. However, with the rise in DDoS attacks and continued migration to the cloud, the mission-critical nature of the DNS has become quite apparent to companies around the world. As a result, many are searching for a managed DNS provider.

According to many market research analysts, the global wireless access point (WAP) market is anticipated to continue its upward trajectory and to grow at an impressive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 8% through 2020. Many enterprises are utilizing cloudcomputing technology for cost-cutting purposes, eliminating investments required for storage hardware and other physical infrastructures. With significant growth expected in Internet usage, particularly bandwidth consuming video traffic, WAP vendors need to enable their customers to monitor and improve device performance, improve end user experience, and enhance security. These customers include general enterprises that offer Internet access to patrons like airports, hotels, retail / shopping centers and so on. These external Internet access providers can differentiate themselves by offering optimum service through advanced network analytics, traffic shaping, application control, security capabilities and more.

To keep up with sweeping global economic and societal changes, public services organizations are undergoing significant technology-driven transformation. Aging populations, rapid urbanization, political instability, concerns about sustainability and resiliency, and changing worker and resident expectations are driving public services organizations to radically improve operations and service delivery. At the core of this transformation is the ability to collect and process vast amounts of data to help to improve outcomes and services. One way to generate this data is through the Internet of Things (IoT) — which IDC defines as a network of networks of uniquely identifiable endpoints or “things” that communicate without human interaction using IP connectivity. The IoT is a transformational technology that can reshape the public sector, enabling improved outcomes and new services such as remote patient monitoring, advanced traffic solutions and predictive policing.

Ten years ago, business and technology leaders catalyzed a cloud app revolution that has changed the way organizations manage IT. However, through this transformative shift, the core requirements of IT remain the same. Technology leaders are responsible for ensuring that 1) information assets remain confidential and protected, 2) information systems are available and operational, and 3) people are empowered and productive with the apps and information they need.
