One of the best ways to learn is from your peers. How do they drive innovation? What are their challenges and business problems? And what technology and processes are they using to solve them? We’re all partners in this analytics journey. Sharing our experiences is how we learn, grow and find a better way.
In this ebook, you’ll meet fellow CIOs and technology innovators. Through their stories, you’ll see how organizations of all sizes, all over the globe, encounter many of the same daily challenges. Most importantly, you’ll learn how they’re successfully overcoming them.
If you’re like most people, the reason you’re looking at OpenStack for a private cloud is because your developers fell in love with public cloud, and you want to give them the same experience, but with better economics, control, and performance of a private cloud.
The reality is that instead of looking to replicate the public cloud experience, privately, we often run in to people that want to fiddle with every aspect of the infrastructure and OpenStack® itself.
Companies start off looking for a public cloud experience, but quickly become more interested in the choice of hypervisor, network models and storage architecture -- none of which are even up for discussion in a public cloud. These questions aren’t wrong to ask, they just shouldn’t matter to you. What should matter is the experience your developers will have in your private cloud,
how your apps will run, and how your private cloud will integrate with your existing systems and apps.

In the not so distant past, the way we worked looked very different. Most work was done in an office, on desktops that were always connected to the corporate network. The applications and infrastructure that we used sat behind a firewall. Branch offices would backhaul traffic to headquarters, so they would get the same security protection. The focus from a security perspective was to secure the network perimeter. Today, that picture has changed a great deal.

Zero-day attacks and advanced persistent threats have outstripped the capabilities of traditional security methods that rely exclusively on detection and blocking. At the same time, the Internet of Everything (IoE) is accelerating. Opportunities are opening up for businesses and attackers alike as more things come online, along with the people, processes, and data that interact with them.
For many enterprises, the solution is a centralized single sign-on (SSO) infrastructure that leverages the enterprise directory with federation, multifactor authentication and centralized access control to give users one URL and login to access all their enterprise applications and services--without having to type in another URL or enter credentials a second time. At the same time, it provides IT with a single identity, access control and management infrastructure, closing the inevitable security and management gaps inherent in juggling multiple gateway solutions. Such a solution would offer the best of all worlds, combining enhanced user productivity with IT efficiency, cost effectiveness, security and compliance.
English Language Learners do not succeed at the same rate as their English-speaking peers. The impact is felt throughout the country: not only does it affect students, their families and their schools, it affects our communities. As the number of ELLs grows rapidly, the challenges increase. Today, a full 9 percent of this country’s population is not English proficient, and 11 percent of our K–12 students are considered English Language Learners.

What happened to Moore’s Law? Why is Oracle releasing a new SPARC processor with fewer cores and threads? The SPARC S7’s core processors are 50 percent to 100 percent more efficient than x86 processors. SPARC S7 delivers up to 10 times more-efficient data analytics and machine learning than x86-based systems. The new SPARC S7 is available in servers, an engineered system, and a cloud service at the same price as the Oracle Cloud x86 Compute service. The SPARC S7 processor makes it possible to build powerful, scalable, and cost-effective systems be it for application scale-out, on premise or public cloud.
